Last stop — all germs off

It's flu season, the guy next to you just sneezed and the bus driver slams on the brakes. You have two choices: go flying across the bus, sprawling across a few startled riders, or grab onto that bar crawling with germs. Read the article at CapitalNews.ca.

Bombardier introduces an innovative program to the Transportation industry that supports the development of healthier and safer transportation systems: Bombardier AST™ Program

Bombardier has launched a new program that will make transportation systems safer and healthier for passengers and employees by preventing and reducing the spread of germs (bacteria, viruses and molds).

The new initiative – called the AST™ Treatment Program – is an antimicrobial surface treatment program that prevents surfaces from being contaminated by germs.

Transportation systems treated as part of the AST™ treatment program help prevent the spread of touch-transmitted bacteria & viruses because AST™ permanently bonds to all cleaned surfaces and reduces future contamination. Unlike cleaning products which keep a surface clean only until it is touched, AST™ treatment remains effective for up to 12 months. It is an invisible eco-friendly shield that reduces microbes that come into contact with the treated surfaces and reduces future contamination even after they are touched. The shield protects 100% of the interior surfaces of Transit vehicles, thus protecting the customer’s new assets as well as existing fleets. After the AST™ treatment has been applied; surfaces only require a soap and water solution to be cleaned, reducing the need for authorities to use harsh chemical cleaners, disinfectants and the associated impact on the Environment.

The science behind the antimicrobial treatment is well-proven and established, and has recently been launched by Bombardier as an after-market product for Transportation vehicles and aircrafts. The antimicrobial surface treatment was developed in the early 1970s and was initially used on medical textiles. It became available for other uses over the last 15 years, such as in high-traffic areas of hospitals, and received Health Canada approval 14 years ago and is approved by regulatory bodies around the world.

The Bombardier AST™ Treatment Programs are already in place at the The Toronto Transit Commission, OC Transpo in Ottawa and the Olympic Street Cars in Vancouver. For more information contact Todd Coulter at 905-625-6909 or todd.coulter@ca.transport.bombardier.com
